FAQ's
I am interested in moving to British Columbia and was wondering if you
could help me find out what was required to obtain an Electrical
Contractors License? Are there any courses I could take by correspondence that would prepare me to write the required exams? I am
an Interprovincial Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal) and have been a
journeyman since 1992. I am also certified as a Master Electrician in
Alberta and have held a contractors license in Saskatchewan. I
understand the requirements are different in British Columbia and would
appreciate your help. If you are unable to do this could you please
direct me to the proper authority.
You’ll have to write an exam to qualify as a Field Safety Representative
(FSR) and to apply for contractor’s license. Depending on your
qualifications or aspirations, you may write for a A, B or C ticket,
with the “A” ticket being for work over 750 volts. Our electrical safety
regulations may be found here
and may also be found on the BC Safety Authority website.
Please contact Karen Patterson or Lynden Vassell at 1-866-566-7233 for detailed information. Please let me
know if I can be of any further assistance and don’t forget to join
ECABC once you are established as a contractor. There’s lots we can do
to help you on your way.
